This was our first ever Milonga. We were amazed at the number of community members who joined this event. These were people who have never danced Tango or Salsa. To our knowledge, there had never been a Milonga in Athens and people were very interested in seeing Tango locally. We had participants from as far as Costa Rica (Ok they were in town for another event but they came to this one too!) and many from Atlanta and the north GA Mountain area. We had participants from 18 – 80 years old!
Our Tango Bootcamp was in the first hour of the event was very well attended. We had 30 people (15 couples) learn basics of Tango and all of them stayed for the social dancing.
Athens Tango Project gave a live performance of their tango songs for tango social dancing portion. There were three segments of tango music. We used DJ music for the salsa and merengue dancing. The event was based on Tanda formation which is three songs of each genre.
We received so much positive feedback and little did we know we would be in lock down and be prevented from hosting another Milonga until Fall of 2021!
